Testing your website

Before you publish, there are several things you should check:

  • Create a favicon: create a small icon that will appear by the URL in the browser window by going to this service and following the directions. Drop the resulting file in your root folder and add the following code to your header:
    <link rel="icon" type="image/x-icon" href="/favicon.ico" />
  • Make sure you have added titles and meta data to your pages
  • Check your site on as many browsers as you can on PC and Mac
  • Check your content for spelling errors and grammatical mistakes
  • Test your forms and all other functionality and have others test it,too
  • Add Google Analytics or Clicky so you can keep track of traffic and links to your site

Once you have published your website, take some time to test it before letting people know it is live.
